This medication is used to help relieve pain, consciously or unconsciously. Ibuprofen and Mefenamic Acid are the most commonly used NSAID groups and be efficacious as inflammatory and analgesic drugs. From several studies, NSAIDs are better at relieving pain compared to Paracetamol. The most popular NSAID is diclofenac, followed by Ibuprofen, mefenamic acid, and naproxen based on sales data and lists of essential drugs in several countries.

Aims: This research aims to find out the effectiveness of mefenamic acid compared to Ibuprofen L-arginine as an analgesic.

Methods: This research was Quasi-Experimental with a double-blind controlled trial design. Pain stimulus using pain latency with an assessment based on VAS for 3 hours of observation.

Results: The results of this research show that each drug group shows a significant time difference. The Ibuprofen L-Arginine group has an average value of 84.21 seconds, while the Mefenamic Acid group only has an average of 63.04 seconds. Data show that the 600 mg Ibuprofen L-arginine group compared with Mefenamic Acid has a mean difference of 21.17 seconds (p 0.0036).

Conclusion: This research concludes that there is a significant difference in the effectiveness of analgesia between the mefenamic acid and Ibuprofen L-arginine groups, where mefenamic acid has slower analgesia effectiveness than Ibuprofen L-arginine.

Keywords: Analgesic, Pain, Ibuprofen, Mefenamic Acid,
}, number={1}, journal={Jurnal Kedokteran}, author={Sari, Alifa Novita and Christin Rony Nayoan}, year={2023}, month={May}, pages={1302–1307} }
