Abstract

Background:Noise is an environmental disturbance that is defined as a disturbing sound in
an inappropriate place or time. Exposure to high noise in the workplace can result in
disturbance, namely hearing loss such as deafness. In 2014 noise-induced hearing loss in
Indonesia was among the highest in Southeast Asia, which were around 36 million people
or 16.8% of the total population. It is estimated that 18,000 people suffer from occupational
noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL).
Method:This type of research was analytic observational with the cross-sectional method.
The research sample totaled 30 respondents who came from 2 different companies. The noise
intensity was measured in both workplaces using a sound level meter and the worker's
hearing threshold was measured using an audiometer.
Results: The results of this research at both research sites show that the noise intensity
exceeds the threshold allowed by the Decree of the Ministry of Manpower of 2011, which is
> 85 dB. The results of the data analysis of noise intensity and hearing threshold value in
the right ear show a correlation coefficient of 0.062 in a positive direction (+) and a p-value
of 0.746. While the results of noise intensity and hearing threshold value in the left ear show
a correlation coefficient of -0.034 in a negative direction (-) and a p-value of 0.856.
Conclusion: Based on the results above, the research concludes that the hearing threshold
value is > 85 dB, and the correlation between noise intensity and the hearing threshold has
no significant correlation.
