Abstract

Background: Laser retinal photocoagulation is the main treatment for diabetic retinopathy. This study aims to assess the outcome of laser photocoagulation in patients with severe Non Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR) and Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR).

Methods: A cross-sectional study with patients with diabetic retinopathy at RSUD dr. H. Abdul Moeloek who underwent complete retinal photocoagulation laser. Assessments were made of visual acuity and disease stability. Non-parametric statistical analysis was using chi-square test.

Results: The study subjects consisted of 30 people with 23% in the PDR stage. The female sex is the most sufferer by 63.3% and the average duration of suffering from DM was 5.15 + 3.3 years. Stability of the disease was obtained by 60% and stability of visual acuity by 63.3%. The difference in visual acuity based on the degree of post-laser diabetic retinopathy was statistically significant (p value = 0.004)

Conclusion: PRP laser treatment for diabetic retinopathy patients at RSUDAM resulted in good stability and visual acuity results and was comparable to the results of other studies in Indonesia.
