Abstract

Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is a variation of gastric fluid reflux disorder that flows retrogradely to the extra-oesophageal laryngopharyngeal segment. LPR does not have typical symptoms and the symptoms shown vary widely, so it is often confused with other laryngeal symptoms. There are several risk factors that are considered to increase the possibility of LPR such as an unhealthy lifestyle, type of food and a history of certain comorbid diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertension. Although it is difficult to diagnose, this disease is quite often complained of, especially in patients who come to the ENT clinic, which is 10%. In addition, this disease can also increase the risk of other secondary diseases, including diseases of the lower respiratory tract, malignancy, and posterior laryngitis. As the management of LPR cases, in addition to pharmacological therapy, it is very important to pay attention to the lifestyle and types of food consumed.
