Abstrak

Tingkat polutan udara yang terus meningkat di seluruh dunia menyebabkan kekhawatiran besar pada masalah kesehatan. Paparan berulang dan sering terhadap polutan tingkat tinggi mungkin mempunyai efek buruk pada kulit. Perubahan mikroflora, stres oksidatif, dan aktivasi Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor (AHR) menyebabkan induksi kaskade inflamasi pada kulit. Beberapa jenis polutan udara yang telah teridentifikasi dapat menyebabkan kerusakan pada kulit, diantaranya polutan gas (karbon monoksida, nitrogen dioksida, ozon, sulfur dioksida), logam berat (timbal, nikel, particulate matter), dan Volatile Organic Compound (VOC). Paparan setiap jenis polutan memiliki mekanisme dan dampaknya masing-masing terhadap kulit. Secara umum, polutan udara dapat berkaitan dengan penuaan, inflamasi, maupun kondisi alergik pada kulit.
